Mawsons is an all Australian retail store inspired by the legacy of two great men; a legendary explorer, and a regular Aussie bloke with a passion for adventure and craftsmanship.

Andrew "Monty" Montgomery was an avid adventurer, inspired by the great Sir Douglas Mawson, he dreamed of creating a range of camping and hiking equipment renowned for its quality and durability. Andrew made his first sleeping bag, down jacket and backpack using his brother's vintage sewing machine in 1978. Friends were impressed by his creations, and commissioned pieces. Andrew's reputation for top-shelf gear quickly spread, and in 1981 he founded Mont Adventure Equipment. Mont quickly outgrew Andrew's small Canberra flat. While you'll no-longer find a trail of feathers leading to Andrew's home, he's still intimately involved in design, production and manufacture of all Mont Product.

Today, Mont is still privately owned and fiercely independent. It is this spirit of independence that has inspired Andrew and his family to take his vision to a new level. There is a new home for Mont and products deemed high enough quality to sit alongside its shelves. Mawsons is an adventure retailer like no other.
